China Rider
Good sound quality throughout. I have a soft spot for 1987 because I saw a bunch of shows.
The China Rider is excellent, Jerry and Phil in particular in the transition jam.
Thanks tapers and seeders

Good Snacks
Anyone else remember the tasty Chipwiches that were available? Once I had something in my gut I was able to relax and enjoy the show.

Sunday Shows in Irvine
The Irvine Meadows shows were always a bit wierd. The was the air show across the free way at the El Toro Marine base. It was cool to watch the Blue Angels from the parking lot before the show.
Unfortunately the Friday and Saturday night shows would attract local kids that just didn't get it. They would party their brains out and get overly rowdy. Gave the Deadhead a bad name in Irvine.
Sundays they would stay home. The Sunday shows, this one in particular, it seemed that the band played a bit differently than the previous two days. This was an afternoon show. We always thought of them as being for the faithfull.
One of my favorite Dead show memories was this Sunday. It was a great two sets. The encore of Brokedown Palace was amazing. My wife and I held each other with eyes closed and slowly danced. 22 years later I can still hear the music.

First show
This was my first show, and I loved it!!! Such colorful and adoring fans; I got it right away. Interesting set list to boot. But the sound quality is fair to midland (pun). Is there anybody who can upload a A+ recording? I have heard a great recording of this show on the dead hour many years ago, so I know that it might work. THANK YOU archives for EVERYTHING !!!!

A beautiful day
Have to take exception with the description of this venue. I always got good ORCH seats from GDTS and the sound was spectacular down there. This show was the first they played at Irvine which started during the daylight hours. It was the Easter show, as I recall, and it was a glorious SoCal day with a nice breeze. The show was no slouch either, with a fairly interesting setlist for the period and great playing all around. 4 stars for an '87 show.

Good gig.... Nothing more, nothing less.
1st Set: A breezy "Mississippi" opens up this last evening at one of the most unkind, unfortunate venues on the west coast. "Franklin's" is rather, chill on the beach drinking a dacqueri (sp?) material. I'm just one of those toolsters who dig the 80s arrangement of "Minglewood." It's predictable but you can always dance to it. "Ramble" is fine. "Tons" is passionately harmonized by Phil which elevates this version past standard. He is likewise rewarded with a cute "Box." "Cassidy" is slightly above average due to keen musicianship. Hey, whaddya know. The first "Alabama" of '87 is decent but Nothing like the blazing 7 minute versions of '79. "Promised" is kept light and airy, but I wish Jerry's busyness meshed better with the should-be precise drumming...It climaxes well, not over-the-top as I want... but keenly played.
2nd Set: After a 'moment or two' they come back to my own cheers when they call for a "China." Unfortunately, this and the "Rider" that follows is just average tho always enjoyable. The "Man smart" that follows is quite eager and active making it better than average. Ummm...they just encored with "Black" last night, but I guess Jerry wasn't in the mood to try a "Loser" or "Althea." Things just get loose and silly here... Jerry's punctuating guitar leads a trashy "Miracle." This rolls into a rollicking, if non-distinctive "Cumberland." "Drums/Space" are quite akin to the "Other One" and "wharf Rat" that follow. All professionally performed and enjoyable with too little enigmatic transcendence. "NFA" makes for a solid summation with Jerry tugging at his Lucille to make something shine. "Breakdown" provides the necessary capper/wind me down to finish this pretty darn good three night run is icky Irvine.

CALI FUN
This weekend at Irvine was my first trip to the west coast,a great time had by all.I even got my Dad and Brother to join us.
This show was very much like the spring tour on the east coast, as I remember it. Unfortunately, one too many Not Fade Away's, but otherwise the band played well and the weather was good.
It is a good listen, although the sound quality is mediocre.

good '87
love the set list...ok sound, beautifully melodic palace, shaky voices throughout but very reflective of the sound then, still an enjoyable listen for me
